I love it when you guys make your own bits and pieces. Thats what makes me look through the threads. Excellent!
Thanks for the comments guys. The more I look at the pictures the more I think this sedan will NOT be chopped. The ch***is is going to be stretched out another 6 inches, and with it sitting as high as it is I think it will look kind of silly chopped. What do you think? Feel free to post pics of your favorite High Boys for inspiration.
as high as its sitting, i think your right, it would look funny with a radical chop. a little bit, say 2" might not be too bad though.
you mentioned an edm machine, is that how you are cutting the spring perch pieces in addition? with the spring mounts on the bones (awesome by the way) did you alot for the tapper of the bone on the ID? probably minimal but am Cad-ing a similar setup, helped me solve some problems! Thanks!
I think you might be right but I am waiting until I have everything mocked up to see how it looks before I decide. Yes that is how I cut the perch pieces, and no I did not account for the taper. Mine are 3/4" steel (which might be over kill) and the taper over that 3/4" was not much.
WOW! Love the project and the build. I've got a Model A stashed in my garage that I'm going to start after my truck. I'll take notes until then!

KEEPER...MAN that's 1 first cl*** build. what a choice body. i'am starting to like the sedans as much as the coupe's. and that surprises me more than anybody. but honestly these h.a.m.b. sedans are fantastic. can hardly wait to see more pics. KEEPER. i love your craftmanship...POP.
Thanks for the comments guys. Got nothing done this weekend. Well actually thats not true. I built a tool shed on the side of the house so I can clean out the garage and bring the project home once it is a full roller. Kind of a pain when I have a couple free hours to come down to the shop to work on it. I think it will move a lot faster when it is home. Gary if you are asking about the color of the block, right now it is rust color. As for the color of the body and ch***is, I don't think I could ever paint a vehicle something besides black. I think Henry was on to something.
I have been playing around with what I am going to do with the back end. I need a high kick up for something else I am planing, does this look like it will work out of. The one thing I am thinking is that I need some more mounting holes on the axle bracket to account for ride height which is a little uncertain still. Kind of hard to read the dim's the are 9.80" , 13.67", and 18.38" respectively. ***Edit*** Here it is with the ends of the bars lined up with the axle, and a shorter bracket on the bottom for looks. Any one see a problem with this.
Hey I just set up a 4 link not long ago in a coupe i'm building. I talked to quite a few people as to how the angle and everything worked best. I set my top bars to around 70-80% length of the bottom bars. I also made my top bars run downhill at a slight angle and the bottom bars uphill to where if they kept going infinitely they would intersect at the center of gravity which is roughly around the rear of the engine block. I've heard this works better than running them parallel with each other. Heres a link to my build thread I got some pics on there http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=384431 Good luck and again, nice build.
Good advice, thank you. From what you said and after reading this page http://www.thedirtforum.com/4link.htm I decided to build in some adjust-ability, some thing like this out of 1/2" stock.
Cool yeah you can do whatever you want with it that way. I've looked at diagrams from dirt track guys and drag racers and they seem to set them up differently. Ya might also talk to some straight line guys too and see what they say
if you run what your frame mounts like your diagram, your axle will move fore and aft when you adjust your link bars. or if you try adjusting your upper or lower mount by itself to correct for instant center (or lack of with a parallel bar setup) it'll throw your pinion way off. if your going to run some sort of drag style adjustable 4link you neeed to have your front mounts vertical. IMO its pointless unless you are planning on spending weeks at the strip launching your car and tinkering and tuning and adjusting till you get it just right. personally i'd just run one mount for the link bars. you want your bars spread farther apart at the axle just a bit so your imaginary intersection lines intersect (IC) at or below the CG near the front bumper. this website might help you. you can input your numbers for your link bar lengths and axle and frame mounts, and find your anti-squat and roll point. fun to play around with. http://mysite.verizon.net/triaged/4linkcalcv15html/index.html
looking like one bad *** clean rod, can't wait to see that caddy in there. Gotta love that exhaust! keep up the good work!
Thanks for the positive comments guys, I don't think anyone can be more excited than me to see the Flathead sitting between the rails. I definitely understand what you mean by not needing so much adjustment, because sad to say I will spend very little time on the strip testing different launches. Most of the reason for wanting that much adjust-ability comes from not knowing exactly where the rear end will be at when fully loaded and this type of set up will let me fine tune things after the ch***is is already built.
Kevin, I have a 9", disc brake rear I'm not using, since I switched to the Jag setup. It will be available as soon as I get the car back from fink'd..........
Man I wish I would have known that before I got started on the 8". I have already bought disc brake conversion and have past the point of no return. Next time I guess. Definitely would have saved some time and headaches.
My dad did this same thing in 1950. Only he used a roadster. I can't be much help though, I was 11 and tried to keep out of his sight.
