1970 Olds 455. Holley dual quads on Offy overhang distributor. Currently spaced up. Does Mallory or GM marine work? Do they require special rotor?

  2. This might help you a little,,,,I’m not sure .
Back several years ago , I rebuilt an engine for my dad,,,,it was a Vortec 350 in a full size truck .
The distributor in that engine had a flat top cap from the factory,,,I think a late 80s model .
I don’t know if the cap fit other distributor or only fit the Vortec,,,,,,you might still adapt it either way though .
Or,,,Adapt the distributor to an Olds even ?

that flat cap distributor is an electronic one with no advance built in, but it does fit the Chevy small and big block V8s from 50s-late 90s. I'm not sure if "fits" means the same as "works in".

Since he has an Olds, that won't help at all.

Call Mondello and ask them. They know all things Oldsmobile.

  5. I assume it uses the std GM small cap used on V8 before HEI. I think you can use one of those aftermarket flat top caps made by ???? Has wires set up so they come out each side together. Uses stock rotor far as I know. Never used one myself, but I've seen them. Since wires come out the side, it should give more clearance.

  6. I don't think the Crossfire caps are available any longer to replace GM cap with points adjustment window.

  7. That’s a good pic Jim,,,,,,exactly what I was talking about .
I knew it had no advance,,,since it was designed to be in a computer controlled ignition vehicle .

Since this guy is an Olds man,,,,,I figured he might be a good fab guy,,,,and could adapt it to an Olds distributor body somehow ,,,with the advance features .
There are some guys on here that can make almost anything work,,,,,including you Jim !

    Brains,,,,some thoughtful contemplation,,,,,and a willingness to not quit .

Olds is just a SBC distributor with reverse rotation. I might be able to do but didn't want to spend money on a cap just to look at one if it doesn't work.

hmmm...not sure how an Olds distributor is a Chevy distributor, they sure look different to me. I guess the top part is the same, but the rest isn't.

I've never seen one, and I looked for one due to interference problem between the rear carb on my 283 dual quad system and the distributor. If there is such an animal out there I'd like to see it and get the info on it.
