Great video Carl, my first apperance was really bad, bogged and stopped before 60 foot mark:D!
Hope your shoulder heal up soon, so you can plan the next Flattie:)?
If you ever need solid copper gaskets, both for heads and intake? let me know as i about to make a batch.

Just read this from start to finish, what a cool car! I have to admit I chuckled a little of the video of you getting in and out of the dragster. It reminded me of myself getting in and out of mine at least getting in you have gravity to help! good luck on the shoulder rehab.

  4. Yea gettin in and out is a real hassle for me but it is worth it, now if I can get the other engine finished and more seat time before I croak the world would be a happy place............

  5. Well with the arm the way it is, I did get in a little time in the shop, yesterday and today and did something I have been thinking about for a long time..............

That looks pretty damn handy Carl!

  11. Hell Carl . . . when I first started scrolling down the page and saw the chain, I thought you were working on a "Retro Blower Drive" for your blown flathead. My mind was convinced!

I thought 'Holy Shit - Carl has lost it, he's going with a dang double row chain drive setup! Look out women, children and stray dogs!'

Then I saw it was an engine stand drive . . . oh Hell, guess I'm getting a little ahead of myself!

Hope to see you on the salt . . .

  12. What a cool build, man that flatty looks hot in there. The shortened c-4 kit is a trip, neat to share that info. Keep on keepin on. ~sololobo~

  13. Yea Dale No chain drive for me but I will be working on doing my own drive set up for the 471 as I am too cheap to buy one and its only for short runs anyway not a daily driver ha ha. We will be on the salt, am gonna order my grandsons ticket today to get here he is excited..............

sololobo yea the Flat-O-Matic kit was a real fine piece, worth every penny............

Carl, what kind of times did it run with the 2x2 intake?

What are you shooting for with the 4-71?

  15. Buddy the engine in it now is a slug I have had under my bench for years just a stocker to get the frame worked out and make sure it runs straight and stops. It does that well.
Got 3/8 block with 1.6 intakes (see above) that I will set up for next year with maybe a 4 1/4 crank and the 4-71 or 4-2's or both depending on my mood. Need to keep it over 10 sec so I don't have to get a new frame that's what I am shooting for, a good 10sec car something to have fun with and enjoy for the few remaining years I have left, all 30 of them.......................
    My thoughts
Car weighs 1568 with my fat ass in it
    hope to get around 10.02 @ 127
need approx 280 HP according to my figures. think it can be done with the 4-71 fairly easily

  26. Sometimes it feels like Back breaker, but most of the time me n Jack get nothin but "Bumps and Bruises" everytime we work on it, has something to do with ol age settin in, and a fondness for using your thumb as a target for ball pien hammers.........

Change hands now and then...that helps.:D We refer to our shop(?) as "Wild Hare Racing", as that's how the whole thing came into being. :p

  28. Well since the arm is getting back to normal we just got in the pieces to get a start on the next step. So it may be off "to the races".......
