Cool rail Skotz like what you have done, got er tacked together today and on to the welding.........the pics are loaded onto my web page and I link them to this page with the insert pic feature.......
1 1/2 120 wall DOM tube welding almost complete time to start on next phase, Rocky, got my tires and will have them mounted tomorrow had to get a new tube.............
Day what, I've lost count, but did get the trans back together, got the tires mounted the new axle studs in, the rear end back together and she is now sittin upright again......maybe, just maybe, we'll get to put some fire to her next week and make the neighbors really happy.....?????
I like your setup for loose nuts/bolts. I've got so many coffee cans and buckets, I can never find something when I need it
yea but with all the bolts and nuts I have I still seem to be going to Ace every other day for the one size I don't have on stock..............
Well got the tranny back in one piece and the fuel pump mounted and fuel lines ran, not a bad day espically after spending two hrs looking for a part I fabbed up yesterday and couldn,t find. Its the shits gettin older...........
Carl, Your rail is sure coming along ! Looking forwatd to seeing how you run. Good luck in your first start of the flattie. Got to love the old Hopped Up Flatties !
Great stuff Carl! What is the engine combination you're going to be running? Also, IMHO - be careful with the hard fuel lines . . . you don't see many of them at the track for a reason (they have a hard time with vibration, crack, leak, etc). I'm not an expert, but I'd ask a few fuel system guys what they think - they'll probably tell you to run flexible lines.
Jeff, Yes B&S right now it will be as she sits basically stock with 2 97's to make sure I can make the May date but I have a couple of cams in the attic a 4-71 sittin on the bench and a lot of other Ideas in mind if it all works out. Still have to make the trailer and other things before the 22nd. So much to do so little time......... The ol man just wants to have some fun.....
Have some real big fun Carl! When you get into building or using a race engine, keep us posted. If there is anything I can do to help on the engine stuff, let me know.
Well another day at the barn, got the trans in, the engine back in, brakes bled, little more work on the fuel lines, then sat for a few moments to reflect..........now I think I will redo the h20 set up I don't like it...... [/IMG]
Ya know, just lookin' at it... why not a little canister sitting between the carbs? Two copper tubes straight up from the heads, one big copper pipe capped off for a tank and the fill cap off to the side? 'd feel a little leary of the possibility of that fill cap blowing steam right in my face... I'm thinking like the y-block if I remember correctly, had a tank in the front of the engine, but you could fit it in between the carbs. Don't know about the heat exchange so close to the back bowl though. Still... that cap, right in front of your face... ouch.
Looking good Carl . . . heck, you're going fast just sitting in it! I agree on the water setup. I used to have two little short fillers - basically just a short piece of hose and a cap on each head . . . worked just fine. On your fuel line setup, I don't think you can "dead head" that mechanical pump as it usually causes ugly fuel pressure fluctuations when you're running a dead head regulator with that type of pump. We already know that 97 inlet valves have challenges as it is . You should get a return line type regulator and plumb a return back to the fuel tank. Heck, this will also get you ready for a Hilborn 2-port hat injector . . . right on top of that 4-71 blower!
Whatcha gunna do when the cap fails and the steam and boiling water hits you in the face? Will it happen? maybe not, but why take the chance when it's so easy to route it away from your face! Thought #2. You look happy as a clam sitting there in a T-shirt. Put a couple extra layers on and your winter jacket, then sit in her! Getting to your shifter will be an issue. I pass this along from an Old Fart (me) who can't fit in the Comp Coupe he put together, and now has to let a younger, skinny guy drive!
Better checkout the rest of the post - he's added a LOT to the cage . . . to meet current NHRA SFI specs.
I agree with the other guys on the filler neck, but why beat a dead horse. The car looks great, just don't burn your face. I know it's a different animal but you can see where I put my filler down low where the water outlet used to be, truth is at 100+ if the cap blows the water will be in my face too but the engine might deflect it a bit.
B&S... that remark was to BigMikeC (to whom I now see you also made a similar remark). He said "it didn't seem to bother 'em much back in the day"... wow, neither did Benzene, smoking, or many other 'cool' things... sheesh! Carl, the car looks GREAT. I'm working on a plan to build a FED, tho it will have a stout SBC in it (cuz it's already on the floor here after coming out of the dirt modified) I'm betting that my 675hp will be a real handful in a FED, what u guys think?
I see said the blind man . . . my bad on this one! No insults intended -- better drink more coffee before I type
