Looks good! See you this weekend! A UFRA sticker would look good on that scoop! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
How did it go this weekend Carl. Tried to look at the livestream, bot was disconnected several times. ............................. Taildragger&fenderless
Well Kjell we lost the trans last time out at test n tune, thought it was just a linkage problem but when we got down there friday we found out it was a little more terminal than that. But I did get to pit for the Antique doll and Rocky let me run the Evil Twin! Do have it apart and am in the process of making the trans bullet proof now.........
4-71.....Flathead....."THE" way to make it "think" it's not a Flathead Thanks for posting all your updates...."one of these days", I'm gonna figure out how to "post pictures" the easy way....till then, I enjoy "your" progress shots
Carl, What tranny are you running? I have an extra Muncie-if memory serves me correct, it's a wide ratio m-21. I might even have a Vertigate shifter for it.
Hope the tranny is not too damaged Carl! We are gona come back stronger next year! K ............................... Taildragger&fenderless
Carl I use a 904. In reality it isnt a lot dfferent then a C4. I machine the reaction plate so it sits proud out of the retaining clip and also sneak a bit off the face of the apply piston. this gives me enuf to sneak in an extra clutch plate and steel. I do it in both the direct clutch and forward clutch. Ie if I have a 4 plate clutch stock and I add another clutch plate and steel i now have 25% more holding power and have not bothered the trans at all hydraulically. The other place i have had trouble is the most forward sealing ring on the stator support for the direct clutch drum.(when it starts to fail high gear goes away a bit and MPH drops a few MPH) I now run a teflon seal there as it was prone to failure at race RPM. I also run mobil one synthetic trans oil which ended wear completely in my race trans. The safe operating temp for Mobil one trans exceeds the melting point of aluminum so it was a no brainer when I realized that. You probably have all this anyway but just in case mention it. don
Hey Carl, Here is a run from Brown County Dragway in Indiana about a month ago with of Flathead powered FED aka "The Rail Job". Our best run on the 1/8 mile so far has be 8.28 seconds and 83 mph. It has a old Ford Econoline 3 speed tranny. We are looking for a top loader for it, but haven't found one yet. Here is the link! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=371800586224188
Here are a few pictures Carl. The rail belongs to Tom Culbertson here is Indianapolis. It has been kind of a Road Rocket Car Club project. I built the motor for it several years ago at the World Of Wheels here in Indianapolis. We took it out last winter and I went through and freshened it up and we put a new cam in it that we had Schneider grind for us. It is an old Scotty Finn Chassis.
Well got the trans apart and looks like too much lead foot for the clutches and bands, ordered new parts to make it bullet proof..........the beat goes on........
What the hell Carl! You making all kinds of flathead power and now you're tearing up modern transmissions? Good for you!
Yea Dale the worst part is when I tear up shit up it takes time away from fabbing up the blower and other stuff I want to do, that tic's me off. But so is life in the slo lane. He he, at least I know that the new engine is performing so far, so all is not lost...........
What monster Flathead have you buildt Carl? First killing the rear-end, now the transmition? I know you have been in the game for a while, what's your secret?. Pluss adding more power....where is this gona end...? Kjell ................................ Taildragger&fenderless
Sorry to hear about your tranny problems Carl! I will be out your way the end of November. My son lives in Placerville with his mom. I am coming out for his 6th birthday. I wish I would have some spare time while I am there, but will be busy with my son. I don't suppose there are any drag races going on in Sac on Dec 2nd? I do have to say I have been impressed by all I have read and seen. You are quite the machinist. Reminds me of my dad and all the things he used to dream up and build.
Nothing going on except test n tune on sat track is closed for winter Placerville is about 1/2 hr from here if you have time...........
