at car shows or races i let anyone get in and have someone that's with them take a picture it makes their day. I've even had people have me pull over so they can get a better look and i get them in the car(if I have Time) but kids are the most fun.
Well started project on 1-14-10, had some ups and downs but can see the light at the end of the tunnel got the ok from NHRA on monday, got some primer on the body tues got the body back on today, only two more brackets to fab on the drip pan and its ready to roll . Will try to make test n tune this friday damn that makes me feel fine..................
The little digger looks just great...congradulations on your workmanship AND getting it completed in just 9 short months. One thing that did catch my eye. I've been under the impression that the Moon style tank with the flip cap and plastic wrapped spring hold downs have been banned for many years. Any comments from the inspector on that?
great to see your progress, and look forward to hearing how it goes, getting in and out will take some getting used to but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it real quick. Cheers, Drewfus
Rich, Yea the tank will get some attention all minor stuff....... Rocky hope to get a run in this friday will let you know how it went, not going crazy just want a few tests before Eagle, make sure it doesn't go sideways if you know what I mean........
Well another good day Friday, got to check her out a little bit, need to make a few changes nothing serious as she went straight and true and stopped, what more can you ask?
Carl, the way you attacked the flathead's rod/bearing/crankshaft ills was straight to the chase. I heard you when you said "I can remember when this repair would be affordable" (paraphrased.) Glad it turned out that way. Great example of a determined man on a mission. Cool is an understatement.
This is some fine work! Thanks for taking time to share it with us...looks like tons of fun! I have gotten the FED bug in a bad way.
Carl, I may have several (read many ) grandsons and great grandsons but I can only envy you having a grandson that shares some similar interest. Hope he will accompany you to the Drags in Oct. Have great fun and make some hard runs.
Well I took the trailer up to Maaco and figured I would get an estimate to paint the trailer and the panels of the FED what can it cost if I do all the prep and all they have to do is spray away, right? Well they advertise that they will do your car for 259 so I thought this would be ok as I wouldn't have to set up a booth in the garage. Hum 650 to do the trailer and 400 to do the 4 panels and glass end piece..... piss on that, 50 bucks worth of Rustoleum later ....
Looks good Carl. I did mine with a $15 HF gun and $75 worth on paint and hardener from the welding supply store, you might consider that it may last a little longer.
Good luck this time Carl! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread from start to finish [ very inspirational ] A question was asked earlier by somebody else but I coudn't see the answer.....What is the steering box from? Also what are the front wheels from? ps: I loved the pics of your painted trailer , especially the "test spray" marks on the fence! [ I now have photographic evidence to show the wife, proving I'm not the only person to do that ]
Great Job Carl! Did you ever get the chance to make some test runs? I'm very curious to know what your car runs, as well as Mctims.
