Projects Flat FED build

Always like it when a plan comes to fruition. Helped a friend build this engine for his grandson and he finally got to fire it....... Go George!!!

 

Purrs like a kitten and no vibrations. Doesn't get better than that.

Flamed my 'Toad wagon today as well. Needed to do the final tune on the SUs. Took'er 'round the block once she warmed up. Back in the driveway, doing a final diddle on the mixture when one of the local mothers pulled up and gave me a ration for speeding in the neighborhood. Wasn't speeding, never went over 25 ...... was turnin' the hides a wee bit in first though.

 

"Never went over 25"...Ground speed. Betting the tire speed was above that.

 

lets see, just when was the last time you "never went over 25" Dick, 70years ago????

well start of more changes, gonna toss the mag for a while made new dist and off we go again, try to eliminate as much shit as possible.......and of course don't have any good caps on hand so....off to Summit we go Ugggg

Here we go again. When are you going to cast your own aluminum flathead block?

 

He's gunna need a bigger propane gas tank.

 

God only knows what Carl has up his sleeve now . . . probably going to cast a new set of Flathead Muffler Bearings.

 

I know a guy here in NZ who cast his own aluminum FE block and eventually went 6 seconds in his dragster. Had no training or experience with casting metal before he started. He was a body guy years ago, but he is a tax accountant now! Builds everything himself.

 

Was he, or did he know, the kid that stopped by Bert's shed asking questions?

There was no Kid in the real Burt world. That was a movie only addition. Obviously this guy comes from a similar mold as Burt. So many Kiwis do.

 

First thing I thought of when I saw Carl's pics - World's Fastest Indian.

 

Makes me wanna build another dragster. Never had FED. Had rear engine SB2 and couple others 23 deg and BBC.
Flathead dragster looks fun and lot work.
