actually got 91lbs of aluminum for free but it was in a form I couldn't use so......melt it, got 60 of it melted so far, now it gives me more to make shit out of. Of course that's when the new petrobond arrives. Humm casting a block?????lets see, don't need no water holes have sleeves on hand, hummm, nahhh maybe next year. Besides I would need a bigger foundry..................and yes Flathead FED's are a blast keeps this old fart busy and alive.........
I am not so sure that Grant would want any discussion about his age , but he is still racing and still running sixes. The current FED which he built a couple of years ago from scratch at home is powered by a BBC. He still has the old car and the home made engine. In fact he is a Hamber but hasn't said much . You could give it any kind of ports you wanted...make your own solid heads too and experiment with chamber shapes.
And bury the head studs deep for greater clamping, more boost ! and/or move them so you can bore it for 3 and 9/16 sleeves, or not even use sleeves, just Nikasil plate the huge bores and even bigger ports, valves and ....... raise the cam bore and enlarge it for much bigger lift cam, 5 main bearings with 4/6 bolt caps/girdle, steel stroker crank, ...meanwhile back in the land of rational reality.........
Pete haven't won any yet I just make the Trophy's to give to Ron Bowers and his injected 6 at Eagle Field (gotta beat that sob sometime soon), gotta make him start on I 5 next time........., And yes Tom there is a seven port 322 for the next rebuild.......... and Pete still running the cam you ground for me....Love it!!!!
well sometimes you get a great feeling, helped a buddy build this engine for his grandson, he sent this video........what its all about.....go gettum Tyler.......
Maybe it's just the video, but it doesn't sound like it's running on all 8 when he drives away. I recently had some rust bits clog one of the jets on my dual Stromberg setup. Sounded just like that, and it was running on 6 or 7 cylinders.
People ask what's Eagle Field all about, well here's a compellation of 11 years from a Flathead perspective
Fun times and I'm sure there's more to come. Hope to crew for you again. Say hi to the "Old Hippie" for us.
will do Tom, we're both just treading water at the moment, but still time to futz with Flathead stuff, its amazing how much of a mess I can make in a few minutes.
Surprised you haven't cast your own timing cover yet. Looking good Carl. Put the "Rabbit" on hold for a bit, (hell, it's been on hold for the last several years). Working on putting a straight axle under the front of my avatar. Needed a change of projects for a bit. When it's up and running I'll get back to the race car.
nice castings but I've never been a fan of set screws for hold down if I cast one it will have shoulder for Chev style hold down, keeps dist from walking when timing. JMHO
Not my castings, made in Aussie. They look OK, but way too "street rod" for my liking. I like the alloy covers from the later motors , they have another shaft support below the drive gear.
