Flat head ford build,

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by flatblackflathead, Feb 18, 2009.

  1. I am in process of rebuilding a flattie. The machine shop just got back to me after sonic checking the stock 8ba block with a 3.312" bore it will leave me .075" of wall thickness, should I be concerned?

That's .125 over, from what I've heard, most engines can take that OK.

Pretty common bore dia. What crank are you going to use?

Was the .075 measured on the thrust side.

  5. I am pretty sure that it was .075" @ the thinnest point not sure where that was but my machinist said they were pretty consistent, I have a 4.125 **** stroker crank

I would be happier if he said over .100 +/-" in the thinnest spot. I'm ***uming you still need to have it bored right?

After a bore to true it up and current wall of .075" you may be running a little on the hot side.
