flat head six oil pressure?

    226 ford six, SW gauges installed and i'm showin' 45-50 psi at idle. is that too high?

    the normal oil press as per motor repair manual for the 223 is 52 to 62 good luck I hope this helps

    thanks, i was just a little worried that it was high and the reprint manual doesn't have pressure specs. for oil.

    Is that cold oil psi? It will drop considerably when hot. What is the pressure when you rev it up?

    Overall, it would be high if that is the hot value, but too high is a lot less problem than too low. You probably just have tight bearing clearances and therefore a bit high pressure. It will probably develop a bit more clearance after it gets broken in and settle on a lower value.

    FYI K9: the engine you are thinking is the OHV engine, which came in 215 and 223 sizes. This engine is the earlier flathead. Your oikl pressure values are good guide though, even though the engine is a different model.
