Hey all you flat head V8 guys this is what ive been told you tell me if its true ???.
    1/ 1941 ford pickup engine number is 11A 212156 (V8 Flattie)
    2/ 1946 Ford Coupe engine number is 69A k11233 (V8 Flattie)

I have been told the prefixes and numbers are not correct for the above Car & Pickup
Can some one actually steer me in the right direction as to what is actually correct for both these vehicles, or what should they be if indeed they are wrong ????

Any help would be greatly appreciated as our local DMV are giving grief over this and I would like to shut them up.

    Thanks in advance Nifty

The 46 seems to match the p***enger car prefix for U.S. models. However, the 41 seems to be a p***enger car prefix as well. Where are the numbers being found? If it is actually on the engine, I would be more surprised to find the original engine still in the vehicle than otherwise. If my shaky memory serves me, light truck and p***enger car frames were very similar in that era so a swap wouldn't have been out of the question with that, either. It should be noted that Canadian/Australian numbering doesn't always match U.S. numbering, including location.

Canadian numbers are very different. Don't know much about them...
They did change engine designations with year I believe. USA introduced 59A with '46 models, kept it as engine designation while Ford CAR designation changed to 69, 79, and 89. Canada changed the ENGINE designation along with car. A C69A is just a 59A from a '46...
On the 221's, Ford serial numbers all began with "18" until end of the line in 1942, even though engine details continuallt changed...Canadian engines again seem to have had changed along with car designation. Car, commercial, and truck designations are not consistently separated...a design was numbered for the first use it was designed for, and if same unit was also specified for other lines, it kept the first designation. I think in 1941, a commercial got exactly same engine as car, while trucks (meaning above 1/2 ton commercial size) probably got the 81T heads and would likely have had serials with a T...
I have one book that seems to indicate that there was a Canadian 51A or 51C engine, a postwar production used 221...does anyone know of such an engine?

It seems to me that the 1941 Truck engine would have been an 81A or 81T 221 cu/in engine built between 1938 and 1942. As Bruce and Jim suggested the 69A may be right for the FORD p***enger car but prolly has a 59A or 59B (bus) block in it.

Could you possibly post any numbers found on each head? One may be a 6049 (right side)and the other may be a 6050 (left side).

The engine would indeed be an 81 by USA standards. Canadians annually updated engine prefix.
