question, is there a difference in a 1937-40 ford wishbone and a 35/36 wishbone from where the tapers start or IF I purchase pin 1 or 2 will the castellated nut bottom out on the smooth shank as there is less meat on a 36 bone? so I have to use perch bolt 3 as the tapered washer will ride up the shaft even IF the bone is 1/4 inch narrow - if in deed it is?
I may be missing something here but for starters, didn’t you post a video showing the difference between a 35/36 and 37-40 axle the other day? If so, I think you showed there is a difference between the spread of the perch holes. If I remember correctly that there is, the perch bolt question is moot because you will not be able to use the 35/36 axle with the 37-40 wishbone or vice versa. You could split the wishbone but would then need to heat and bend the spring perches to compensate for the wishbone angle difference. Then there would be the axle height difference…… Maybe I misunderstand and you are looking to match proper year axle and wishbone. If so I’m thinking the question is: Are the bolts made for a 2 1/4 inch axle going to have too few threads with a 2 inch axle set up? I have to think someone has a spacer for this application. I can’t tell the difference in the lengths of the bolts from the picture. The castellated set would be my preference as it has the taper needed to seat into the wishbone bottom built in.
hello I picked up my 36.5 perch 2'' boss axle yesterday I have had to saw off my perch pins to save the bone I cannot measure the bone until asturday I want to order some pins today so they arrive for saturday. yes you are correct - will the aftermarket pins work with a 2'' wishbone specifically a 36 I cant measure it as the bits are elsewhere and I would like to order some today so they are here for the weekend... I have however just realised I have a 37 axle and wishbone of which I could sacrifice the axle for the pins however, I still don't know if the 37-40 pins will be too long for the 36 bone.
I have used the 2# SS pins on 1935-36 front ends, you will have to cut them off, I found that I needed to put them in the lathe and knurl the stem to make them fit tighter in some of the axles I have. later kb 1935 -1948 Ford Car Stainless Steel Style Perch Axle Bolts + Nuts PAIR SS | eBay
Hello, Thank you very much for taking the time to both take the pictures and upload the photographs many Thanks
I use the longer pins on 35-36 Axles when I swap them out for spring over axle. This makes them long enough for headlight perches as well.
