  1. She Runs Again - But She's Staying Indoors Today
Went and bought a new battery and had the previous one checked on a load tester - nothing wrong with it. I bought a second one anyway (helps to have a spare in case of future drama). What I think is happening is that my starter is hanging up on the flywheel at times - never did this before, but this is a new oil pan and the starter is registered/mounted off the oil pan. Guess that gives me something ELSE to screw with an figure out. It is always something now isn't it.

It snowed about 4 inches last night - and they salted the roads as well . . . so the old girl doesn't need to go out in that shit. Rust is the enemy - give it no more chances than it already has on it's own.

    All back together:

Here is another short video - just of it running in the garage . . . I know, boring . . . but it is all I have today:

  2. Yes - have been doing all my own internal engine parts, decided to go ahead and do the carb bases and the bodies. Lots of work for sure (probably 3 - 4 hours per carb when all said and done) - but at least they don't permanently stain and the bases don't end up rusting after the paint falls off. LOL

dale, LOVE this motor build and the use of coatings... and just trying things in general. the timing of pulling the motor apart is interesting as a friend of mine who owns several midgets (I used to race as well) had just sent one of his motors off to the shop to get it freshened after 16 races. It's an essingler motor so it really has no comparison to the flathead but any motor that can run 16 races at full song and still look like this is pretty cool. unfortunately the flathead is no where near rigid enough to get this kind of wear. all tolerances are exact and the oil is Synergen 20W-50 synthetic. I know it's Off topic but thought you might find it interesting in relation to coating life.

  6. DAM! Dale that flat motor sounds good....

  7. Almost sounds as good as mine.;):):D
Or maybe mine almost sounds as good as his. :( Either way flatheads sound the best highly modified and open piped...

  8. Dale now I'm wishing I would of used all these coatings on mine. I will have to do that on this next merc motor build I'm starting.

  9. Well, the snow melted a bit and it rained the other day - so the salt has been washed away. I needed to test drive the FlatCab and put her away for the Winter - so today was the day.

The new transmission works absolutely flawlessly! It easily shifts into 2nd and I can rev it up high and let off the gas and it doesn't pop out of gear. Really feels great. After the test drive, took a look under the car - not a spot of oil or transmission fluid anyplace - dry as a popcorn fart . . . perfect.

Now - time to get my mind into Christmas - has been a busy damn month (consulting project for my old Software company - has sucked all my time away).

Have a Merry Christmas Gang . . . see yah in the New Year!

YES - I need a GoPro . . . hard to hold the phone, steer, shift and keep the thing on the road - so my apologies for the poor video:

Here is the old girl - right before I disconnected the battery for a long winter sleep. Goodnight FlatCab!

  10. Dammmmnnnnn it. Sounds fishy. Must be hiding something under that hood.
What's all that white stuff on the side of the road. Iv never seen that here in California. It is raining here in long beach today but it's still 65'. Have a great x-mas dale and one hell of a new year. Talk with you soon. I'm gonna use this video as my bed time story for sweet dreaming...

  12. Happy to help those building performance flatheads - especially newbies - just PM me. Going to do a bit more 'experimentation' with the engine this Winter - have some ideas to play around with! :)
