FLATCAD RACING Bonneville 2011 Build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 38FLATTIE, Jul 27, 2010.

  1. Worked in the shop all day - getting my 'Dyno Punch List' covered.

Finished the welding on the 1" stainless water manifolds that go above the heads. Chris Daniels did the initial fabrication work, I just did the final welding. Made a pressure checking setup so I could put 40 lbs of air to them - just to make sure I didn't have any pin-hole leaks (I try to check everything I can).

Packed up a spare Vertex race magneto, spare coil, gasket stuff, timing gear shims, electrical connectors . . . all kinds of Bat Shit that we'll probably never need. I always try to come prepared - seems like it is the little stuff that always hoses you.

Anyway - have a bit of work to do in the morning and then it is off on a 12 hour flight to Chico, CA - for the next chapter in the FlatCad build book.

My wife Amy (who is one heck of a FlatCad 'crew member') - went out and bought a cool little Sony video camera today . . . only place open was Walmart and they had a nice little HD unit for a fair price. Nice of her to go do that while I was welding away . . .

We have to record the initial startup . . . whatever the Engine Gods want to bestow upon us, we'll have on tape!

    Wish us luck gang!

  2. It sounds like Buddy will roll into the RODGE MAHAL in about an hour and a half. Wayno

  3. Sounds like a 'Turkish Den of Iniquity' . . . we need a guy in a turban playing a wooden flute, a cobra in a wicker basket and a sexy belly dancer . . . and a case of beer . . .

Can't you all just see it?

  9. Good point! I think it only came with a 32Gig one . . . Amy is checking out her other camera to see if she has another one. I'll make sure I have what I need - though I'll also have my portable to off-load to.

Going to be an exciting week!

Witch modell Dale? Be sure to take the DVD disk that came with the Camera. It might say PMB, and if you install it on your portable, it's much easyer to download.
Give me a signal if you run across trouble!

    The beast lives!

We fired the engine, and she sounds like a SNOTTY BITCH! We have a mechanical water pump issue, and will substitute an electrical water pump in the morning.

Serious dyno work will commence tomorrow, once Don, Carl, and Jim join us!

  25. Excellent! Very very cool. Congrats on a good first start!

  26. You name it, I'm buying it! I'll be up early, give me a call on my cell 614-404-8641

  27. Just got back to the hotel - drank a couple three good Gin n Tonics ... What a long, but fantastic day! We spent the whole day getting the FlatCad on the 'Heart and Lung' machine - named a dyno. She has more dang probes up her Kulu than somebody on deaths Nell, so Buddy and I were like a couple of kids - needing John Beck to calm us down and just help us walk the dyno walk.

There is no greater HotRod experience for me than starting an engine like this :- nothing else is a close flicking second. Without John and Vintage Hot Rod, Buddy and I would be doing more damage than good - John is one Hell of a guru and all around brother.

So . . . Keep posted my fellow flat friends, we will update you all just as soon as 'Medusa' speaks her snake headed cantankerous bitch of a mind! I've seen a couple she cats in my life, but on the dyno today . . . Boy, the FlatCad seems to want to scratch and snarl a bit - and we just love this attitude.

Tomorrow will be THE first day of many FlatCad reconnings . . . I only wish I could bring you all here for the experience .

Hang in there. . . Same Flat Cad . . . Same Flat Channel!
