Hello All I know we have been quiet as of late, so an update is due.

Buddy and Dale will be flying in to my shop this weekend. We will assemble the motor Saturday and finish up on Sunday, Monday off to the Dyno, Only change to the motor is we will set up 2 injector hats, one for Alky and one for fuel. and the other Dale the mad Scientist purchased us a brand new Mag !!!!! pro mag that is !!!! and this thing is a beast, It is so big I will have to modify the exhaust for clearance. Dyno is set for Monday the 7th -- to -- 9th , if you remember last year we ran the car on the chassis dyno and were unable to get any real numbers as we had a clutch issues. This time we should get real numbers with the new cam and Alky !!!! I say we will get 750+. I will post some pics as we assemble and Dyno. After the Dyno Dale fly's home and Randy fly's in to help install the motor and tranny and both Buddy and Randy fly home on the 12th to leave me to clean up there mess !!!! The only unfortunate thing is I normally only have to spend 1 week a year with these Bastards now they will be at my house for over a week !!!!!

Good Morning all

After a long 3 days of assembly and ripping a head stud out of the block things looked bleak for the dyno. Thanks to Lock-n-stich they set us up with a cast iron thread repair kit and all the alignment jigs to repair the threads simply and quickly. we finished the assembly Monday night. Yesterday was setup day on the dyno, We did get to fire the Beast !! just to warm up and re torque the heads and check its vitals. Today is Alky full pull Day !!!

And.... any update?

 

We ran our best dyno run with 90% alky, 10% nitro - and 19+ lbs of boost. That was about 653 HP and 707 or so torque. We thought we'd pick up more at the top-end with nitro, where it really added was in the mid-range. The motor seems to top-out at about 650 or so HP with our current combination of stuff. Really makes a ton of torque at a low RPM - so we need to let it hammer the taller gears and probably shift at 5200 or so.

When we upper the blower speed to 21 lbs boost, was making a hell of a run and we blew a head gasket at about 4700 RPM - killed two cylinders.

I've been busy, and haven't been on the board for a while, and have a lot of catching up to do!

First, I want to thank everyone for all of your support! It means a LOT to us!

We ran on alky, up to 19.4 lbs boost, then added 10% nitro, and 2 more lbs boost.We only gained 13 HP, but a lot of torque. See pics-first pic is the alky tune we will run. Second pic is our nitro run. We'll run the nitro if we end up a couple of MPH short-kind of our 'Hail Mary' tune!

I was disappointed, as I really thought we could and would top 700 HP. Still, the engine makes great torque, so we'll see what happens on the salt.

 

Thanks for the update. The Flattie sounds nasty during the 500 HP dyno run on the link.

 

Poppa Smurf (Pops29) has been busy, changing all of out 1" hoses and clamps over to AN fittings, cleaning up our plumbing even more!

Poppa Smurf also did our discharge water manifolds!

......AND, the new steel came in for the upgraded chambers on the heads!
Don also made a new water pump discharge manifold.

 

Are the aluminum heads being retired?

No, they are not. We are going to try and make new steel chamber pieces, and keep the aluminum tops.

We are trying to accomplish 2 things. First, we want to see if the steel will seal better, as it won't expand as fast as the aluminum.

Second, I have 2 chamber designs we want to compare to what we are running.

 

I just installed my cyclone heads and wondering which spark plugs to run....

The cyclone heads have the larger regular size plug holes.

Pete, NGK-5238, or R5671A-9 would be good plugs to start with, I think. I'm not positive about the reach the Cyclone heads take, but If I remember correctly, it's .750

Wow! I was only gone for a couple of weeks, but this site sure changed-wish they would change it back!
