Have a closed drive 39 style trans that I fully rebuilt all new bearings new synchros new detents etc. been driving it a year now and lately it’s giving me some issue. Sometimes when I go to shift into second from first it’s like I hit a wall and can’t get into second. If I release the clutch and press it in again usually it’ll go fine. Sometimes it does it going into reverse. Any suggestions or help please? Throw out and clutch/pressure plate were also done with the trans. Free play is roughly 1-1/8”
65 years ago when I started to drive and old Ford my dad told me I had to learn the double clutch to go from 1 to 2?
The '39 coupe I had in 1963 ate a rebuilt trans because someone had neglected to insert the hemispherical thrust "washer" between it and the torque tube.
I don’t know how to double clutch and my sedan has 10,000 miles on the latest transmission, built by me. If you follow the Mac VanPelt book to the letter, you’ll be golden.
Clutch adjustment or the grease from the u-joint has made its way into the transmission. The other issue could be the ball on the end of the shifter is worn and needs to be built up.
‘Double clutch is only for old trucks really with constant mesh gears. Clutch Into neutral , clutch and into the next gear.
