Need to pull my motor and have it rebuilt. Any recommendations of who is good and thorough on 59A Flatheads? I need it hot tanked, manga fluxed and pressure tested...along with the other machining and ***embly. I live in Long Beach, CA Thanks!
A pretty good early ford guy used to work out of the Kennedy bros shop years ago... I believe his name was mike Gilbert
I used mesa machine in Escondido for all my engine rebuilds. Owner bill hunter knows these flatties very well and you will get a fine rebuild. But wait. You want it hot tanked? Magna fluxed?Pressure tested? What on earth for? Most machine shops don't have such chemical tanks anymore. Instead, engines are torn apart piece by piece and pressure cleaned with safe solvents. Magna fluxing doesn't come into play until after dis***embly. Pressure testing is unnecessary as cracks in heads can best be visibly ascertained after removal from block whereupon cracks in the block can be discovered too. You'll likely get a funny look from any honest shop when you ask for diagnostics you are considering. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I would NOT use H&H or Mesa machine For one of my motors... Give a call to crower or Schneider cams... . I bet they have some good semi local contacts, Kennedy's probably know a few also
Lets just say if 10% of all the complaints I have heard in the last 10 years are true. It's more than enough for me to stay away ... I know there are some pleased customers but the ones I have talked with that are pissed are really pissed.. They all say the same ... Very little effort was made to try to make it right... No shop is going to have 100% pleased customers but for me it's a numbers game the amount of people I have heard not pleased vs. happy makes H&H to risky to deal with for me..I work to hard for my money... Supposedly the shop I worked at had 5 or so customer cars with H&H issues , I only drove one , blow-by ... Compression weak in couple of cylinders ...sounded and drove like it was on its last leg ...supposed fresh and 2nd time around was the story I got No voodoo to a flathead ... its not rocket science...you just need to find a good old time machine shop with experience to take the time and do it right...
