Ok I know my 48 Plymouth has the firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4.. But where the hell is #1 on the distributor cap?? The engine has recently been completely & professional rebuilt. And the man who did the work says it is set with #1 at TDC & the engine has not been fired up yet. I have read, been given advice, etc. not sure if the information is going over my head or I flat do not understand. I'm attaching 2 pics to make it clear what I am looking at, because I don't think I'm wording my questions correctly. Distributor is a single spline & the rotor is at 7 o'clock. As shown in the photo. So please look at my photos & either take a detailed photo showing me how "yours" is done or put an arrow of which is #1 on my photo. Because I have searched the internet & no one seems to have one that looks like mine. Why can't distributor caps be numbered like they use to be???? Thanks for any advice & patience with an idiot.
Just put the piston on #1 cylinder at TDC both valves closed. Where ever the rotor is pointing is #1 on the dist. #5 is next in direction of rotor rotation, and so on. Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If the oil pump is clocked correctly, 7 O'clock is number one. I would get cylinder numero uno on TDC and see where your rotor is pointing as suggested.
What he said. This comes up a lot and it's, sometimes, difficult to explain. There is no #1 terminal on a distributor, As stated, whatever terminal the rotor is pointing at, when you're at TDC on the compression stroke is your #1. Then you simply follow the firing order around the cap
You know which is your # 1 cylinder right ? We usually put a rag in the #1 spark plug hole and turn it over. When it pops out should be at the #1 on the distributor where the rotor is pointing. A quick look at the timing mark on your pulley should verify it. Or get an old shop manual....they learn you a lot !
