Adjustable valves on this flathead. Any tool to hold the valve pushrod to adjust the nut while still leaving valve in the block? See four holes at top of pushrod in pic and threaded rod and nut at the top.
Those are adjustable Johnson lifters. There is a set of wrenches that you can buy. there is a left and right wrench. Looks at Macs or Speedway. they have them. Your looking for Johnson wrenches. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Flathead-Lifter-Wrench,4544.html http://macsautoparts.com/early-v8-f...ad-91a-6500-wrn/camid/F30/cp/JS0R3CHL1071587/
I actually prefer to take an old broken screw driver, something that has the right diameter to fit in the holes and bend it to make one. Those little wrenches are just stamped steel, sometimes they break. The lifters are designed with interference threads to lock them in place, sometimes the force required to move the threads is more than those little stamped steel wrenches can handle.
Are there any little holes drilled in the side of the lifter bores? On many occasions when using Hollow Adjustable lifters, builders will drill 1/8" holes in the lifter boss, they would just insert a hard 1/8 shaft in the hole and lock the lifter during adjustment. If you don't have Hollow lifter, this method will not work.
Same as stock lifter, they just remove a lot of machining and assembly cost and time. You don't have to grind valve for backlash, just adjust the bolt.
