It's been a while since I've been here, always get some good opinions here... so.... what's the easiest ( and cheapest ) way to install a 12 V alternator on my '49 Ford COE with the original V-8 flathead ?
First, why do you need to change to 12 Volts or an alternator? Second, the GM 10SI/12SI alternator is about the cheapest, most readily available and very well designed unit on the market, and the simple sling-shot mounting brackets, as shown, are stocked by many suppliers. Bob
the truck was basically a basket case, 12 volts is handier to run it off the battery, and just plug in the charger once in a while, always got a spare 12 V battery near by..., besides I doubt the 6 volt equip is any good,, also all the wiring is gone.
I guess I never even considered, leaving it 6volts....been along time since I checked out a generator, but the regulator ? Do Auto stores like Autozone or Oriley's check out gen and reg ?...guess if I have to buy a bracket, I could just buy a 6 V battery....less work involved.....
