    Hy Guys

i got a mail from a man with a schiefer Aluminium Flywheel with a 9 1/2 Clutch! he says its only for 49-53 Flathead, flywheel is not compatible with the 59A engines! Im interested on this wheel but i have a 59A-b Engine!
Its that right? I drive the org. 3 speed Toploader on the Engine!
    Thanks Marco

All of my old speed equipment catalogs list a different flywheel part number for the pre-'49 flatheads than for the '49-'53 engines. I think it's got something to do with the relationship of the starter drive gear to the ring gear, depthwise.

+ 1 on ring gear position. You need one for 48 and earlier.

Yep, I had one on my 59a motor and it wouldn't go on a 8ba without rubbing.

8BA and 59A use different flywheels due to ring-gear spacing. You cannot mix-n-match these to my knowledge...

You can lighten a stock flywheel quite a bit & get it down to <25lbs - the aluminum ones are about 15lbs or less.

Unless you've got a big engine and a light car, the aluminum ones are too light for the street and you end up slipping the clutch quite a bit to get going. You'll also want a bronze or steel insert. Most folks are much better off with a lightened stock flywheel.

Hi Marco, What Flat Ernie said is all true. I'm running with A lighten flywheel and it works great!! The 9 1/2 clutch your asking about is A one or two year only thing with fords from what I'm told. Most people here don't used them because they an odd part to find. A 9" cluch is the way to go. hope this helps, Jared
