Hi guys. It's been a while since I've been on here but I've been so damn busy with the new job and the frame off on my 61 Chevy that I haven't had any time to come on here.

Anyway, after building my car (if you need a refresher just search my name and there's a build thread on here) I decided that I want to go with a T-5 trans. Does anyone know if they're the same clutch/bellhousing setup as the flathead? I would really love to find out that I could buy the flathead to T-5 housing adapter kit and use it on my 215. Thoughts?

NO ! It uses the bell housing from the SBF mostly found in a Mustang . I am sure there is an adapter made for the flathead . Try Trans Dapt for an adapter or Wilcap.

Well, there is definitely an adapter made for the flathead to put a chevy t-5 trans in. My question is are the bell housings different between the flathead trans and the trans for the inline 6? I have the inline 6 and want to put a t-5 behind it.

I don't think there is a difference between them . If you look at your 6 cyl. and look to see if they are the same . I would measure the distance from the engine to the trans on your's and see if the other bell housing is the same . The adapter for the T-5 is just a spacer basically .
Let me know what you come up with .

Thats kinda what I was figuring. I have a flathead bell housing from my truck so now all I have to do is get under my car and figure things out. Maybe I'll just wait til I pull my transmission out completely and put the two bell housings and clutches side by side and see if there is any difference. I really want the 5 speed. I spent too much money on my motor and don't want it revving to 3500 rpms for extended periods of time on the highway.

I am not sure the truck and car bells are the same but might be . When you get the trans out , just measure the distance between the trans to the end of the input shaft then do the same to the T5 . That will tell you the difference you will need for the T5 to work . I am pretty sure there is a conversion for a T5 to fit a flathead . That one you will have to search for or maybe someone has already done the conversion on the main board . Have you done a search there to find out yet ? That would be a lot better than guessing on what to do here .
    Just a thought .

Shoot...do you think the truck bell might be deeper than the car? I only have a truck flathead bell. I need to know the dimension of the flathead bell as well as the dimension of mine to see if the depth will be the same to use the flathead adapter. The depth of the adapter is set up already to use the t-5 in the flathead.

As far as the research goes, I figured it would be better to ask first on here since the quality of the information and responses is usually better than it is on the main board. I have a subscription to the giant t-5 thread on here so I have to just get on there and read a little more.

I just got the email. Unfortunately, all the funds I have are going to my 61 chevy frame off build I'm doing. I will be putting a t-5 in there at some point, I just wish I had the cash to do it all at once. I think that's what we all wish for though.
