flathead cam advice

    I think someone listed the percent amounts of zinc used in present oils in a previous post. Maybe a search will turn up the thread.

    I think Castrol still uses it.

    This is my 1st engine build so I may be off base but the amount of cam failure I read about here and on other boards is out of control. I'm sure the missing zinc is not the culprit, so unless there is some m***ive operator error there must be some other explanation.
    My thoughts are inferior materials and workmanship to begin with, gave me an idea to get my stock cam reground to something a bit more beefy. My original cam iwas made IN the good ol' USA back when things were really made to last.
    Any ideas on a good grind, feedback appreciated.
