So, I bought a rebuilt 8ba from a local hotrod car dealer. He's actually someone I've known for a while. He was sketchy on what was done to it. Someone else and others purportatly prominant in the flathead world have done work to it. I've removed the heads to find it has stainless valves and inserts as well as a Merc. crank, one new piston, the rest look quite good. It has not been run. Tonight I removed the timing gear cover to find all new gears and a one piece seal....Here comes the question...On the front of the cam there is the letter C followed by the numbers 4919 stamped. Does this give any clue as to what this cam is? While I'm at it I may as well ask what you sages think all this is worth. It came with early 24 stud Edlebrock heads and the block has been plugged correctly for them. Along with that an early Offy head with two rebuilt 94s which I'll be selling off. Any clues???????
thats the only way to tell what ya got. theres all kinds of mystery cams out there. ive got one with LISKIN stamped on it and another where they bored a hole in the nose of an early cam and brazed a dowel with a dist gear on it to use in a late eng. all kinds of worthless **** from the 50's turns up.
