I am building a 49-53 266 flathead with a Isky Max 1 cam (249 Duration), high compression heads and 2 deuces. I read enough of the past articles to find out that 2 Holley 94s rebuilt correctly and with direct linkage should do a good job on this engine. I have a few more questions before I tear into any of the carbs I have. First of all I plan to modify an early model vacuum advance chevy distributor (based on recommendations in the Tex Smith Flathead manual), so this may affect what I use for carbs as well. I have 3 94s, a 21, a 59 and a 7RT. I know the air cleaner horn on the 7RT is different, but is it acceptable to use the best parts of these 3 to get 2 good ones for the engine? If not which model is the best to find a mate for? Since I do not know the history of these Carbs, when I am rebuilding them is there any particular things I need to pay attension to (besides normal rebuilding details). Or is it better to just buy re-built carbs? If so, where where is the best place to get a couple of good 94s Are there any recommended books that deal specifically with rebuilding a Holley 94? Thanks for any info you can p*** along. -Dave
You might find this interesting. I did. Here is a comprehensive manual on rebuilding them. PT 1 PT 2 PT 3
Check with GMC BUBBA on the HAMB about the Chevy Distributor. He did one for me, even furnished the dist. and my flathead runs great. I used a pair of 94s rebuilt by Bob at Baxter Ford Parts in Lawerence Ks. and they work excellent.
