Flathead casting number ID

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by roadstar, Aug 10, 2008.

  1. I am trying to ID the engine that came in the 32 sedan I bought last month. I know it isn't the original 32 engine from info I got telling me what to look for.

Im thinking the engine is a 36 to 38 engine. It has cast iron heads.

The number in the pass head is 18-6049.

I hope to find someone who needs a early engine for a restoration project. I don't see many of these early style flathead in hotrods. But I need to know what it is to advertise it.

yeah those are early heads but the block could be any of the 21 stud variety. if you could pull the intake ck to see if the main bearing bolts are visible if so its an early babbit bearing motor. also look for block off plates on the block above the bottom outlets on a late 21 stud block.
