I discovered today that a 11 in clutch and pressure plate will not work with an 8ba mill hooked to a 39 ****** will. Not release but can't see why

If I remember correctly I used 49 - 50 Mercury flywheel and clutch set up. I think it is a 10". There is a thread about this set up.
    Good Luck

Boy does this sound familiar. I had the same problem, but not with an 11"set up. To make a long story short, I was given a top loader trans a long time ago. I wanted a floor shift in my 40 ford. I put a 50 Merc engine in along with all the right stuff, I thought. Clutch pedal to the floor with the adjuster all out. 1/2" bolt between the fingers of pressure plate and throw out bearing. Crazy right. Problem was the transmission case. I don't know what year it's from or what, but when I put the 40 side shift trans in, that cured all the problems.

To use an 11" clutch on an 8ba block you must use the 8rt (cast iron) bell housing & a 78 series trans case (37-38-39) & a proper 11" clutch (fingers short enough not to bind on the large throwout bearing). If all of these parts are present, then it's probably sloppy linkage points preventing proper adjustment.
