has anyone figured out how to read local foundry casting dates on flathead ford v8 made before 1949 ? here is an example of 49-53 v8 casting date code +G 20 B+ G=1 or january 20=date B=2 or year 1952 so this block was made on january 20 1952. thats all well and good but i cant find where pre 1949 date codes are published.
I don't think such data exists. On some of the 49-53 blocks there is a date code stamped on the machined surface that the intake manifold bolts on to. Post your question on Fordbarn too. 48-53 late engines: inside the valve chamber, on the shelf the fuel pump rod goes through, the model number is usually cast ie, 8BA 0BA 1BA. Can't help on the earlier blocks.
