The motor:1948 flathead Ford. Isky 400 jr cam, Navaro heads/2 carb intake, stromberg '97's, pertronix ignition, electric fuel pump.
The problem: motor has always ran well since I put it together last winter. Only problem I had was frt. carb leaked a little, so I set the float level down about 12/32's. this stopped leak, but missed a little on high rpm. Well now I sat float level back up to 15/32's, (getting ready for the HAMB drags), took car for a test drive. It missed badly, limped home and set float back down to 12/32's from top. Now it idles fine, but blows flames out exhaust at about 1000 rpm. Seems to clear out at higher rpm. rechecked both float levels, still blowing flames, and has a miss, but hitting on all 8 at idle, and clears out at higher rpm's. I'm sick of missing with it for today, any ideas?

Do you have a fuel pressure regulator on it? Those carbs only want to see a couple lbs of pressure.

On Strombergs, once the thing runs pull the carb tops and set FUEL level. They do not react consistently to any specific float level, and fuel level, the critical need, should be set for the particular carb and the low pressure pump actually used. Neither Ford nor Stromberg even published a float level for these!
The numbers have been posted here several times--just use advanced search. I'm at work without the numbers, and my memory sucks so I won't guess.
Ford supplied a sight glass for setting, but said it read circa 1/8" high due to meniscus--if making one, drill all passages to biggest possible and use fairly large clear tubing. For basic starting point, Speedway sells a brake banjo, gaskets, and bolt in the right size for Stromberg plugs. If making a sight gauge, before you use it compare its visible level with actual fuel level do you know exact compensation for your rig.

Regulator set at 2.5 pounds. Was sick of it last night, going to work on it again tonight,
