Projects Flathead Ford v8 upper radiator hoses?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Zapato, Aug 30, 2016.

  1. Are the hoses same length on cars and trucks? Or will the preformed one piece hoses long enough to be a cut to fit? and does anyone have a Gates or Goodyear part number that we can use for reference?

    Thanks!

  2. I just went down to NAPA and picked two that fit - had no idea what they were intended to fit............ And easy to shorten them...............

What year? They are probably all different, depending on the year.

  4. Its a late year, we think 1951, in a 1942 truck.

By any chance did you record a part number on that hose?

Take a coat hanger or welding rod and bend to the shape and length you need as a pattern to take to the parts store with you.

  6. I'd probably do things a little different. Exhaust tube with a bend and short coupling of hose at the 4 points. But then I never do things the easy way.

  7. P-n-N , that is what we have right now tube is almost gone at the hose ends. Someone must have made these as they have a raised swag at both ends. You know just enough to hold the hose, just how important is that? Am guessing not so much as never see that on cast pieces. Think we'll head off to a muffler shop.

    Zap,
I have muffler tube as well...... Just shmuie a little black RTV silicone on the joints before assembly and allow to dry before antifreeze fill and you will be good to go. Mine have been on for more than 10 years.

  9. Flathead's don't make enough cooling system pressure to blow a hose off anything. If they do you have a bigger problem than a good hose clamp can fix.

I made these out of stainless grab bars. You know, for bathtubs ssradhose.jpg ssgrabbars.jpg

  12. We found a couple of conduit sweeps ( yup electrical conduit) heavier than what we had and galvanized. Should last forever. That and a long hose that we can cut for the four ends and 8 hose clamps and voila job well done.
