Back once again with a couple questions. This being our first flathead am sure more will arise for now just 4.

Not sure what this part is called so unable to find both seals needed. What's it called? And is there a source for the seals? Fits behind oil pan.

Covering the starter motor drive is a metal can looks like a rattle can cap. Again is there a source for these ?

In the engine gasket set there are 8 rubber washers, where are these used?

Last is the large round gasket on the bottom of the oil pan available or DIY, not included in Fel-Pro engine gasket set ?

    Thanks!

can't bring up your pics, so i'm not sure exactly what you mean. as far as the last two items, i think the rubber washers are valve guide seals--use them on the intakes only. the last item i think is the oil drain gasket, see mac's catalog, page 93, part # 8ha-6730. hope that helps.

Ditto, Dan C, re; the valve guide seals.

If you go to a Power Master starter, you will not need the "rattle can cap" cover, because those starter drives don't engage from the read side of the flywheel. (And, they sounds the same as the original starters.)

You can get the large drain plug gasket at a good hardware store. I found a nylon gasket that matched perfectly.

What's the logic of telling someone to replace a part that works with one that costs 220.00 and change rather than buying a piece that should cost less than 20.00? I see way too much of that on here and it doesn't make sense 99%of the time. Almost every thread we see concerning that style of starter relates to problem with them not working right on the rig they are installed on to boot.

WXgal, that cover should be fairly easy to find used and one of the suppliers like Mac's may have it new. Please excuse my rant above but it gets tiresome to always see someone suggest that the person asking the question spend several hundred or thousand dollars just because that person thinks the suggested item is a cool item and not because it may be what the person asking the question actually wants or needs.

One thing I've found over the years is that it helps to get every catalog that the places that sell pieces for your particular car hand out.

Mac's, Sacramento Vintage Ford, the V8 shop, Hamb member and flathead parts guru **** Spardaro are all good sources.

  7. i agree with 48 chev's "rant".
the first thing you are looking for (i think, no pics) is a flywheel housing dust seal, mac's has it.
i too like to get as many catalogs as i can so i can cross referance prices and availability

Can't see pics, but for the last item you may be talking about the large oil pan clean out gasket for 48-53 truck pans. Go to www.earlyfordstore.com and find the pic for item #7HT-6698 to see if that's what you need. Hope this helps.

If you can't find a starter cap that fits into the bellhousing, it would not be too difficult an item to make.
