Anybody Know how to get out the fuel pump shaft bushing in a 59ab block? Looks like its pressed in but if you look close it looks like a threaded (3/4 dia) thing is in there too like a pipe plug with a bushing in it.I have 2 blocks like this and they both look the same but one is all egged out.Figured I would ask before I screw something up......Thanks
This info from the Repair Manual Ford Mercury & Truck V8 engines 1937 to 1946 manual. "Drive the fuel pump push rod bushing from the cylinder block. Using a sutable driver, drive the new bushing in place so that the top of the bushing is flush with the casting. Reaming the bushing after installation is not required." May have to have the cam bearing out to do this other than that you may be able to thread the inside of the bushing with a pipe tap (1/8" or 1/4" NPT) and pull it out the top. Jim
The other thing is a big plug around the bushing that is hypothetically removable from the blok...pre '49 only. It was not normally removed for overhaul, and I've never tried. Ron H in his book discusses removing it, replacing with a shallow plug, and porting the oil gallery in the area for engines with no fuel pump. Unless you have agood purpose-made driver that fully supports the bushing you will likely need to debur the top a bit after driving it...I think size is 3/8".
