After days of reading and searching on here I haven't found what im looking for so I hope someone can help me out. I mocked up my 31 ford coupe to an 8ba and got everything fitting right with a mechanical fan. When I sat my new Navarro 2x2 on the motor I realized I had to index the fuel pump differently..no big deal. Well even with that done it still hits the firewall. This is a rookie move I know but im sure there is a resolution. It's a pre 49' intake and I plan on drilling the provisions for the draft tube and oil fill tube. But now im wondering if I can use a older style fuel pump/fuel pump stand and shorter rod and not drill that second hole up front? Here is a couple of pictures to help paint a picture. Thanks guys.

cut the firewall, use an inverted blister.

  4. Rubber BFH on the firewall.....wait, what stand are you using?

No I have one of the newer type. It's like a 90* elbow. Will a late flathead pump fit that older stand? Also it seems like the Navarro intake is maybe 1/2 inch lower at that mounting surface but I read on here there are 3 different rod lengths. It still doesn't make sense because I have a 10" fuel pump rod on in my 8ba so I figured is need one around 1/2 inch shorter but the next size down is over an inch shorter. Can anyone shed light on this?

8ba use there own fuel pump push rod, since your intake is for a 59A style engine not an 8ba, it should use the 59A style fuel pump stand and push rod. Since the fuel pump mounting point on the stand height is positioned lower on the earlier stand it will make up the difference.

If this makes any sense, this is what I did;)
I cut out the firewall, then cut the outer parts of it (from where the bend is). Made a new outer part, making the firewall flat from the lip of the cowl. Then I cut out the inside of the "K". Made a deeper part as a "V" shaped pan, and welded it back on. I also lowered the body 4 inches.
All in all, this solution made enough clearance for the 8BA with the big flathead fan. But I had run with stock fuel-pump before, but chose to put in an electric instead. With a little deeper "pan" you can probably run with a stock pump. Moving the firewall backwards and the "pan" gave me almost 2-3 inches of space. I can also take off the heads easily:)
And again, if this makes any sense?:)

I have about 3/8" clearance to the radiator. The fan cools the flathead perfect:)
