That's cool, but instead of saying my flathead runs like a scalded dog, you could be saying my car weighs half of what the other guys car does.

Look guys, I have no problems with flatheads...and I gave my best advice on the oil change question. I'm just saying when someone says my flathead will outrun an SBC, so SBC's suck, try comparing apples to apples.

Thought this thread was about maintenance requirements for a Ford Flathead...Not about how fuckin' fast ALL sbc motors are. Bust my balls all you like, but the whole car hobby DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND THE BOWTIE!

True hotrodders will chose the slowest most expensive choice....wierd, when did that start ???

  7. Can see both sides fellas - before this thread deteriorates into a OT slugfest, build what ya want and what you can AFFORD- just have fun with it.

Hell If OI had my way, I d have a set of ARDUN heads on my FH in a heartbeat. But 14K would build me one NASTY SBC or HEMI.

Affordability and personal taste - thats what its all about !

Personally, I love em all....inc early Vette SBCs.

I'm just having a little fun....some anti SBC pro flattie guys are funny.

I love them all too, I have had and driven a flathead powered car, and liked the challenge, my current car is nailhead powered, and will stay that way, and I've had SBC's ranging from stock 283's to stock 275 HP 327's to blown 350's.

It's just that when people seem to go out of their way to pick on the most successful, longest lived engine going, ( people use them a lot for a reason) I like to stir the pot every now and then.

Awesome, we have an annual Steerman fly in up in Northwest KS that draws 20 to 30 steermans every year. Those things are just plain cool.

I hope that somewhere in this thread, the original poster got the info that he needed, I know we went a little askew, but on my part, it really is in good fun. There is a difference between an ugly arguement and a spirited debate.......spirited debates are fun.

true rodders choose tradition...the flathead was the original hotrod engine.Flathead guys arent weird, they are dedicated to a great engine with an even greater history, its this dedication that allows us to talk about and argue about an engine that came onto the scene in 1932 and went out of production in 53...with a whole new generation of people and parts being forged again.

Most of that's true about the SBC as well, only it lived longer and spawned more aftermarket parts. There is nothing nontraditional about an SBC, as long as its dressed correctly. It made it's way into the hottest of hotrods as soon as it became available. Many a flathead was replaced by any number of OHV engines, by real live, in the day, hotrodders. They did it because it made their car faster.

Some true "traditional" rodders may choose the flathead, others may choose something else. Some may choose to say traditional rodder, but I don't think we should forget about the "hot" part, it is the reason the whole thing started.

    To each his own.

Oh jeez another debate about sbc vs flatheads. Okay guys calm down. Thanks for the info on changing oil. I am about to hit 3,000 so I will change it soon. I tend to put some miles on it since its my daily driver hehe.
