I found 2 pair of heads that I figure you guys will help me identify. I'm not too up on flatheads. First set is aluminum and second set is marked 41T. They have been sitting outside for a while. Are they good ones? What should I look out for? Also a neat oval gas tank in the pile. Thanks in advance.
41T heads were used on the 24 stud. 8 cyl., 90 HP, 1938-42 trucks. They are made of iron and used dome pistons. Have 14mm. spark plugs. The first photo aluminum heads are found in the 1930's V-8s where the waterpumps were mounted on the heads. Here's an example of a 1936 Ford engine. http://us.yhs4.search.yahoo.com/yhs..._IA,206,0_0,StartPage,20120520,18047,0,0,6434
The aluminium heads are '32 - '36 i believe.. or at least '33 - '36. They are for the pump in head early 21 stud engines. I see them over here once in a blue moon but don't know how rare they are over there. Can be used on '32 - '38 21 stud engines and on the later engines if you run a block off plate with a tube for a water outlet on the front of the head. They look good if they are acid dipped, polished or glass beaded. They are good for wall hangers or if someone wants an early looking aluminium head on their engine. Price wise.. if you clean em up probably $100 - $150 a pair? Thats what they fetch here anyway..
If those aluminum early heads have the big 7/8 spark plug thread they aren't worth much....wall hangers. The ones with modern plugs I have bought for as little as $20 each. They are usually corroded pretty bad...
41T heads are postwar manufactured heads for prewar 221 trucks...not actuall original on anything, part of the huge Ford effort to supply parts for all the vehicles run into the ground during WWII shortages. The early heads really should have a number somewhere...but plug size and generalities would seem from pic to be '33-6. They are most likely for flattop pistons...is area over piston a shallow dome or flat?
