Been redoing my 50 ford truck it has an 8ba, and was an all original running driving truck the friday before Memorial day. I installed a t5 and changed the rear end out along with an all new airbag suspension and am just about finished. I was changing all the fluids today and pulled the cover for the oil pump today and found a surprise. There was antifreeze and metal shavings inside the cover. Is there anyone around who rebuilds these engines. It didn't make any noise and always had good oil pressure and never ran hot just smoked a little and I think that was because it needed a valve job. I don't know a lot about these engines other than they are cool. In the meantime my dad has another 8ba that runs that i am going to drop in the truck until I can save some money to get the one that was in the truck redone and possibly add my three dueces and a set of aluminum heads.
Since this is a truck the engine is prolly an 8RT and not an 8BA. Only difference is water pumps, pulleys and belts. You may have to move some parts to your other motor to drop it in your truck. Can't imagine anti-freeze in the oil pump without a major problem. Look closely at the mounting feet on the water pumps and you'll see what I mean.
It could be anything from a cracked block up in the valve chest to something as simple as a blown head gasket. How much antifreeze did you find? Oil pump cover? Are you talking about the cleanout on the bottom of the oil pan? Nice you have another one to drop into your truck. Good luck with it.
there was just trace amounts of antifreeze like drops I think that it is a head gasket I was more worried about the metal shavings in it. The heads say 8ba on them.
