Hello, I had my bendix spring break on my flathead today and my spare is sitting on the counter 750 miles away in Colorado. Any help would be appreciated. It sucks push starting the ole girl GotIt
I would try to find an old shop that does starter generator rebuilds. They probably have a bunch if you can find the old guy in back.
Lots of cars have flatheads. A bit more info would help you. What flathead V/8,straight 6 or 8,brand/make,& your location. Not everyone associates a flathead with ford V/8. Are you near a parts store? They could have you one by morning or sooner.
"It sucks push starting the ole girl." It would be really bad if you had to Suck Start the ole girl from the Tailpipe. Sorry, I just had to be a smart ass. VR&C.
It is probably easier to wait for a new spring but in a bind you can heat the spring next to the break and bend it to wrap around the bolt. It will break again but should get a few starts before that happens. My dad did it back years ago before others told him it would not work. Problem is that your spring gets shorter each time it breaks so less wraps to absorb the shock from the engagement. Neal
