Flathead Identification

    two engines

    one a late model 24 stud markings include on heads 8RT (Truck I ***ume)and B72 on block numbers are star 8436 star R2 and on the bell housing 19 and 524 appear
    other is 21 stud on block R1433542 on belhousing E86 and 20 and also the word Bilchrom

    Do a search on "flathead" - you'll find more info here than you can read - do read the ones in the Tech-O-Matic though.

    SMS;The first mill you describe is an 8BA,'49-'53('54 in Canada).The star and number if located on the rear,p***enger side of the intake mounting surface denotes a factory rebuild.The original date codes were removed,so you really don't know the exact year.Does your engine have removable valve seats?Engines from '49-'51 had valve seat inserts;but from then on Ford started to go to integeral seats and by '53 all were integeral.But I've seen blocks that are '51's with exhaust valve seat inserts only.With Ford flatties there are many variables!!
