Is there a question in there somewhere?? Do a search on "flathead" - you'll find more info here than you can read - do read the ones in the Tech-O-Matic though. Check out this site: http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_home.htm
SMS;The first mill you describe is an 8BA,'49-'53('54 in Canada). The star and number if located on the rear,p***enger side of the intake mounting surface denotes a factory rebuild. The original date codes were removed,so you really don't know the exact year.Does your engine have removable valve seats?Engines from '49-'51 had valve seat inserts;but from then on Ford started to go to integeral seats and by '53 all were integeral. But I've seen blocks that are '51's with exhaust valve seat inserts only. With Ford flatties there are many variables!!
