My 8BA intake has the two small, cast, vertical rails on the front face where the U shaped fan mount goes. One is completely broke off and half of the other is gone. What do the do? I have looked at countless ones at the swap meets and 99 out of a 100 seem to have the same problem. Can the remaining rail be ground off which would put the manifold and fan mount face to face? Sorry for such a dumb *** question but this is my first flatty.

I'm not 100% sure of the exact problem here, but the fan mount does not go between those rails--the generator mount goes there, then the fan bolts to the front of the gen mount separated from the manifold by the thickness of the mount casting. Does that explain anything useful here?
The gen mount is held between the two rails by a big single stud and nut that goes on the front of the manifold, then the fan bracket bolts onto the gen mount with two smaller bolts. The opening in the middle of the fan mount goes around the center stud.

Thanks Bruce. When I took this apart I forgot to take my usual photo of before.

The "rails" are used to keep the generator (and fan) in position vertically. They help when adjusting the water pumps / generator belt tension. (guides)

They keep the generator from twisting sideways. (which with the fan attached could slice through the upper rad hose.

Find someone to restore the "rails."
