I just sat my engine down in my frame today to mock up the motor mounts, its a 50 merc engine with the truck water pumps. The lower radiator outlets do not line up with the pumps, they are offset about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch. With the hoses being so short I am concerned about leaks if I try to use just a straight hose, seems like it would bind or kink. Anyone have a part number for a molded hose that has an offset in it that will work?
A-V8's probably have a similar problem. It is close on the up and down, but the outlets on the radiator are narrower than the pumps... Thanks once again for any and all help. Tim

I have no part number, but if you dont find any,
you can weld some pipe in a "Z" kinda,
and use a short stub of hose between that and the pump?

Its not the perfect solution, but gets you on the road. [IMG]

Mine don't line up perfectly either but the straight hose has worked for 8 years.

The 49-53 lower hoses are what you want. Not perfect but very close. Has the offset bend molded in.

    I agree with Tommy.
Just use straight hose and you should be fine.
If you have problem replacing those hoses later, just soak them in hot water to make them a little more supple.

Thanks guys, here is a picture that I took this morning after welding the mounts in. I don't know if you can tell from the pic how much it is offset. If the hoses weren't going to be so short I wouldn't have given it a second thought. Looks like I'll have to slide them on the pumps before I mount the radiator. Straight ones may bend enough, but I think I'll try the 49-53 and at least see how they look. Thanks.
345window, we should be rolling in sometime Friday night and... it takes big money to have a ride built up there. I just run with the guys that have all the dough, I'm looking for some loose change that they might drop!

My method for installing '48 Ford lowers, perhaps the tightest radiator hose install in the world:
Fold the ****ers in the middle so they are nearly flat, then cram them into the tiny gap with the crease of the fold down. Pullem up while manipulating the openings with hook tool, screwdrivers, and profanity. When things start to lineup, really go to town with hook tool. Don't worry about lubrication, there will be ample blood on all joints before you're done...

the hose you need is NAPA # 7947 and gates # 21236 it has the correct shape you need all though I do not know what it was originally intended for. this works great on my 59 with original 32 radiator. Hope this helps

Man you guys are great! Part number always make for a good starting point. Bruce You are on top of it too, I found out the hard way about the lube!
Tommy is your motor moved back up against a stock firewall or has it been set back further? I want to try to run my fan like yours but it sure looks tight on my truck. I set the engine about 3/8 from the closest point on the firewall... I was goint to run the fan off of the generator but it looks like it would have to be a pretty small (12-13 inches) to do that.

Mine is bolted to a 39 trans that is bolted to the stock K member with the deuce trans mount. Like you I bolted all that up first to get the front mount location. My radiator tended to lean back. I thought I had a clearance problem until I mounted the body and installed the rad. support rods. The fan is the only part that wasn't made by Ford. I had heard all the wives-tales about overheating.

Going by the hood hold down bolt holes, it looks to me like our front mounts are in the same place.

Tim, I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to say that your truck looks awesome. I am building something very similar, but am still at the parts-gathering stage. [IMG]

I'll look forward to more updates on your truck.
