I hope someone can help me out.
My 8ba was running fine. I could turn it over one time and it would start right up. Now it turns over tries to fire up and the strarter kicks out. It is gettin gas and good fire but the carb is leaking pretty bad. It has the stock motor and stock fuel pump. I rebuilt the carb and it still leaks. I pulled the plugs cleaned and put back, they had gas on them, and still nothing. Does this sound like a new carb would solve the problem? Where would be the best place to buy one?

Thanks guys, any help would be appreciated.

Check the timing. Mine used to do the same thing. Made great power when it started but it was tuff to get to that point. Retarded the timing a few and she starts and runs like a champ.

My 8BA did the same thing after a recent carb rebuild.

Turned out that the carb that I chose to rebuild had a leaky float.

    New float, runs great.

    Hope this helps.

Is your electrical system 6v or 12v?

I had a starting problem with '48 Ford. While the starter was cranking, the voltage would drop so low that there wasn't enough spark for the motor to fire. The engine would turn over just fine, but it would not start. I installed a 6v Optima gel cell battery and I haven't had the problem since.

Sounds like a stuck float and/or needle & you're flooding. Where is the carb leaking from? When did this start? All on its own or after you rebuilt the carb? Has the pump been changed?

Definitely sounds like a float problem. Check the solder joint and the level setting. I'd fire off a spec, but can't find the old float gauge from the kit (or the instructions:rolleyes: ) Any crap in the float bowl that could stick the needle valve open?
