We are trying to put a 49 Merc engine in my 50 Ford ragtop and there is an interference problem with the oil pan. I don't have the old engine to compare pans so does anybody know if there is a difference. There must be but I don't know what.
well the merc frame ahs a completely diferent fron cross member it goes forward some in the middle and the ford frame just has side mounts with a suport in front of it , the merc pan is shaped diferently ,go to fordflatheads and check out the drawings pages you will see the difference http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/flathead_partsdrawings_links.htm
Do you need the sump at the rear of the block or in the center? I think I have a center sump pan. not sure about the pickup.
