Putting a flathed together and was wondering when the oil pump gear drive bushing and pin needs be replaced? Attached are pictures of the current gear and pin. It does not have the smoothest feel (spin) to it but does this item always have to be replaced when rebuilding an engine? Thanks in advance for any recomendations.

It looks like it's running ****eyed. Check the bushing in the gear and try to feel for looseness on the shaft. I would replace it anyway. It's a fairly critical part. New ones are available and inexpensive.
