My A V8 roadster has been setting since last year due to a spark issue. Just picked up a pertronix unit and installed it. This is a '47 59L engine. The installation went fine.... fire up went fine.... but there is a severe hesitation when I stab the gas pedal. The point system did not do this at all. I moved the timing tab from one end of the slot to the other and has no effect. Is this normal for this unit? I checked the vacuum advance brake and it seems to be operational. (hard to check) If there is any experience out there I would appreciate feedback. On another note the spark energy that comes out of this thing will buckle your elbow. I get almost a 1" arc that you could darn near weld with. The engine fired up with about a 1/2 roll over. Now if I can get it to run right I'll be tickled.

  2. The PerTronix is not causing your hesitation - If it is firing (as it must be since it is running) then the issue has to be one of timing IF you did not change Anything else.

When we installed a PerTronix unit on the 62 Rambler 6 the timing changed.
Look at that first as suggested.

I didn't mean to imply that it was the unit causing the problem, but the installation. There is no mention of any problem solving solutions. Like I said, I moved the timing mark from one end to the other and no difference. I was hoping to hear from someone that has installed one to see what or if ,I did anything wrong.

have one on a 46 flathead in my Austin coupe. had trouble with it dying at a stoplight for no reason and then starting right back up, also a hi ( for a flathead ) rpm miss. found the coil polarity reversed due to not paying attention on the install. The thing that fixed all problems was running a #10 wire for the ignition supply using a 30 amp relay instead of routing power thru the ignition switch. The ignition switch now powers the relay. Hope this gives you some things to look for.
