Technical flathead piston clearance

    can anybody tell me what the tolerance limit is on a '51 1BA

    40 thou, some say 35 but that can be iffy.

    If you mean piston to head clearance, most guys on the Fordbarn say .050". For piston skirt clearance, my Motors manual says 10 lbs pull on a .003" shim for a steel piston and 10 lbs on a .0025" shim for aluminum. These are the tightest fittings.
