on the timing gear just off center near the top is a threaded hole with what appears to be a oiling p***age going down from it. Question is what goes in the treaded hole? looked at all my other motors and it is missing on all of them. Think it is a 59ab cover. My quess is an oil cup or a pipe plug? Any help?? Thanks

It's for the distributor advance "brake." It's spring loaded inside the distributor.

When at idle or cruising speed a high vacuum signal - from the base of the carb; by way of those p***ages and the steel line - "****s up" the piston allowing the distributor to go to full advance.

When your at WOT (wide open throttle) - low or no vacuum - the "brake" drops and slows down the advance to prevent "pinging."

If your going to use the original cover and distributor, make sure the p***ages are clean. (a small wire brush run through the holes) Check the connecting tube also. (better still; replace it)
Then check the condition of the "brake" (inside the distributor) to make sure it's no too badly worn. (replacements easily available)

That WAS the plan. But the "sawbones" "nixed" any travel away from home.
    :( :(

Had a bad fall and "rang the ole bell" too much. (concussion)
Will have to depend on you guys to take lots of pictures.

Here is hoping "N of 49" breaks the record. (note fingers crossed :D :D )

    Dave,

    ???

    ?What the heck,
Maybe a short trip up to the Tim Hortens in airdre would be more appropriate... - what with the hot weather and Dr sawbones orders and all...

......Dave, I'm so sorry to hear about your (more) recent health et el, It's not like you needed more speed bumps in your toolbox.

I too have some old and very serious long term health concerns but I try not to let them slow me down too much anymore... (after 40 years)

And like you, even after many years of speed bumps I have no need to "boast" about these things here or anywhere for that matter.....
(BTW, thanks for your shops help with my 65 Lincoln charging problems in 'the 70's 80's)

    But, Irregardless,

I am only 2 blocks from the tim hortens on the east (highway) side just 10 minutes north of the city limits.

You would be a Highly Honored and Very Welcome Flathead Guest, .......

-Maybe we could get a bucket of chicken and invite Alf Johnsen, Martin Mathon, Bert Curtis and that Oldest Fart Siewert guy Over for some bench racing.................. ??

Hmmmm, Better get two buckets of chicken if we invite mr super greasy fast fingers siewert.........

    .....

Dave, any day, anytime, you are welcome just 10 minutes north.......
