Hello All, I was looking for a little guidence as far as a price point. I am looking to sell a 1947 Ford 239 ci flathead V-8. It has 24 bolt heads and is bored .030 over and has a Stromber 97 sitting on top, it came with a Stromber 81 on it. It is a running motor, but I have no idea what it is worth. I'm not looking to get rich selling it but I don't want to get screwed over either. I had to replace the head gasket on the pass side and I dropped the pan to clean the sludge out, so I have pics when I had it apart and I can post a video of it running. Any thoughts? Thank You Mike
In Texas, I guess a running flathead complete would be anywhere from $350-$500 maybe more, but not a bunch more!
200-300. A running flathead could be cracked. Sludge could indicate the end of its life cycle. The 97 is probably the best part of the mix.
My take...instant 500 delivered to NJ, nothing out there in Mexico or Canada or whatever Minnesota is... Running does not prove uncrackedness or worth, but it is a VERY upbeat clue. It means the thing wasn't out behind the barn for 20 years being broken up by ice, etc. Sludge is a normal part of engines that lack PCV or that have been run without thermostats.
Runners are $600 - $1000+ in my neck of the woods. The Stromberg 97 is a plus. Most of them around here are stuck from sitting or don't run.
Thank you all for the info, it is always interesting to see how different things are depending on where you live. Have a Great Day!!
