i hardly ever post but i finally fired this 50 merc flathead I bought. i bought the motor in "running" condition but never saw it run. Built a stand for it and wired it up and she fired 2nd crank. Flatty is going in a model a i've been collecting parts on for five years off and on. Now the hot rod went from sbc to henry's flatty and all kind of character to go with it. My neighbors probably really appreciated the 2 am test fire too.
Fantastic, there is nothing like that first run of a new donk. Not only that but you rid yourself of a SBC, WAY TO GO! Don't worry about the neighbors, they will build a bridge........
Great to hear it fired up ! My neighbor looks out the window everytime I fire up a car or a buddy stops by .. He has probably got a stiff neck by now I usually stop all the real loud noise by 11 Got to love those neighbors
Nicely done and good engine choice! I'd say you don't post much, 14 posts since 2007... your better start welcoming people to get that up!!! ha ha Congrads
Next time your neighbor peeks out the window, go over and offer him or her a ride, you might make a friend!
When the guy next store used to run his T Bucket out in his driveway I was the "neighbor" who was always looking out the window. I ended up buying that car from him eventually.
I fired up a 450 hp sbc once at 4:30 in the am... with open headers. I think we woke up the whole neighborhood with it..
Congrats, brother! What a feeling, huh? I can sympathize, I just fired mine up for the first time last week as well! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=4966121#post4966121
