Flathead starters?

    Is the starter in a '46-'48 flathead the same as a '49-'53 flathead? I know the bellhousing is different, but unsure about the starter itself.

    They are all the same, for all years.

    Except automatic trans, which has a protruding bolt boss and dif toothage, and v860.

    Just for grins - many of the European starters are different. I believe the Lucas used on the UK Fords is different again from the military applications (French/German), of which, most were 24V to boot!

    I believe the 8BA starters are more powerful. Look at the aluminum end. The 8BA's show less alum. The coils are longer so the end is shorter. All interchange

    So the 8BA's are dimmensionally the same, outside? (I don't do 8BA) I always thought the shaft and bendix had a different length, that's why there was a different flywheel?

    The diferent flywheel was for the bellhuasing change, same starter....Roach.

    I have a Automatic Flathead starter for sale if anyone needs one?? $40 plus shipping. And yes, the Automatic are different.
