I am interested in putting studs in my 8BA with 39-48 heads. My work deals with ARP. My question is, what length are ARP Flathead cyl head studs?, when ordered from Flathead Jack's or Red's headers? I have done some searching and have not found specs or lengths.
When you order from Red's, they ask you which brand heads and send you all the different lengths that you will need for those heads. They know the stud lengths needed for most of the common heads. That's why you don't see lengths listed.
Has anyone measured the studs they purchased from reds headers or flathead jack? i was hoping to order through my local ARP supplier. The specs for the engine are: 8BA block Edelbrock 38 to 48 heads
Has anyone seen a template for stud position, if all the studs are removed? I have a short block with no studs and this is one of my issues to resolve. 1948 59B Stock Heads With Fram Oil filter can
You can simply set a head down on a table and drop a screwdriver into each hole. Sock heads will show 3 different depths, aftermarket anywhere from one to three.
The Green Bible lists the following for '38 thru '48 passenger car engines: (16) Studs 2.34" long PN40-6065 (28) Studs 3.09" long PN40-6067 I believe all the short ones go in the bottom row of each of the heads.
Most, if not all, of the new hot rod finned heads use all the same length studs everywhere rather than the Ford factory studs since the have all been reengineered to increase the water capacity. Check with manufacturer of the heads for the correct lengths.
Not all: New Navarro "nostalgia" heads and some vintage heads like some versions of Fenton use the factory stepped-type studs.
